10923 El próximo 9 de septiembre se pondrán a la venta las remasterizaciones de la discografía de los Beatles. Ya era hora, pues era una vergüenza que la discografía del grupo más influyente de la historia del rock estuviera anclada en 1987, cuando se editó en CD. Ese mismo día también se edita el videojuego de Rock Band de los Beatles, cosa esta última a la que creo que le voy a echar incluso más horas que a las reediciones... <img src="http://lacomunidad.elpais.com/blogfiles/dario-manrique/The_Beatles_Rock_Band_box_art.jpg" id="img_1" class="imgcen">Hace pocos meses que juego al Rock Band y, aunque me gusta, la excitación del principio se ha ido apagando un pelín, pero en el horizonte siempre ha brillado el advenimiento del juego de los Beatles. Mirad qué chulas las guitarras o el bajo Höfner de McCartney. <img src="http://lacomunidad.elpais.com/blogfiles/dario-manrique/306663_Beatlesinstruments.jpg" id="img_1" class="imgcen">A mí no me cabe la batería en el salón (malditas infraviviendas madrileñas...), el bajo aunque sea bonito me parece una chorrada, porque con una guitarra de estas puedes tocar también las partes de bajo, y sólo tengo una guitarra, así que imagino que me compraré otra. No sé si decidirme por la Gretsch o la Rickenbacker... Más allá de que este paso dado por McCartney, Starr y los herederos de Harrison y Lennon signifique que en breve probablemente la discografía beatleliana estará a la venta en formato digital, lo que esto quiere decir es que la marca de los Beatles va a seguir expandiéndose por más y más campos diferentes. En los últimos años han sido cosas más o menos coherentes como el espectáculo del <a href="www.cirquedusoleil.com/love%20" title="www.cirquedusoleil.com/love " id="link_0">Cirque du Soleil</a> o el Rock Band, y ya se ha anunciado un sorprendente remake en 3D de Yellow Submarine. ¿Qué será lo siguiente? ¿Acabaremos hastiados de que se venda la imagen de los Beatles hasta para modelos de coche? (hablando de esto, que se lo pregunten a los herederos de Picasso)...

10923 Cambiamos de tercio pero seguimos con la vuelta de un grupo que, como Extremoduro, en algún momento me ha gustado mucho y que luego se han ido desinflando (no sé si ellos o mi interés por ellos: probablemente ambas cosas). <img src="http://lacomunidad.elpais.com/blogfiles/dario-manrique/weezerfoto.jpg" id="img_0" class="imgcen">El primer disco de Weezer, el azul (1994), es una obra maestra de pop guitarrero post-grunge, una sesión de diván que cuenta las inseguridades de Rivers Cuomo, un tipo muy particular... Aunque para psicoanálisis , el del siguiente, Pinkerton (1996), un álbum más difícil de escuchar, menos inmediato y repleto de los conflictos emocionales de Cuomo, que de ser el retraído, el raro de la clase, pasó en pocos meses a ser una "estrella de rock", con los peligros que eso conlleva. Así es que escribe temas como Tired of Sex o Across the Sea, en el que habla de una fan japonesa adolescente a la que, asegura, "no va a tocar, pues estaría mal". Curiosamente, Cuomo terminó casándose con una fan japonesa... Después de Pinkerton, pasaron cinco años sin noticias de Weezer: se especulaba con un empeoramiento de los problemas psicológicos de Cuomo, con que había vuelto a la universidad... En 2001 apareció el disco verde, con unos Weezer hiper-poperos, pero en piloto automático. Sí tenía buenas canciones y vendió un montón (canciones en anuncios televisivos incluidos), pero... Parecidas pegas les pongo a los siguientes dos discos, Maladroit y Make Believe, elepés con buenas canciones pero facilones, en los que parece que Rivers Cuomo no se implica ni la mitad de lo que lo hacía en los primeros dos álbumes. <img src="http://lacomunidad.elpais.com/blogfiles/dario-manrique/Weezer.jpg" id="img_1" class="imgcen"> El 24 de junio próximo aparece el sexto disco de Weezer, que dentro de su tradición de no poner nombres será conocido con el color de la portada, en esta ocasión el rojo (gran homenaje a Village People el de Rivers Cuomo, ¡vive Dios!). Pero antes, en su web, <a href="http://www.weezer.com/" title="http://www.weezer.com/" id="link_0">weezer.com</a>, se puede escuchar el primer single, Pork & Beans, que me parece bastante bueno. En <a href="www.weerez.com/atnw/Tout_Ensemble.zip" title="www.weerez.com/atnw/Tout_Ensemble.zip" id="link_1">este enlace</a> se puede descargar un disco homenaje a Weezer hecho por fans. Curiosamente, nadie se atreve con NINGUNA canción del primer álbum... 10923 Last Night es el último disco de Moby, un álbum conceptual que funciona como "carta de amor a la noche neoyorquina", cuenta su autor, que también reconoce que "en estos dos últimos años he tenido muchas noches largas". <img src="http://lacomunidad.elpais.com/blogfiles/dario-manrique/moby01.jpg" id="img_0" class="imgcen"> Puede resultar sorprendente de alguien como Moby, que en su momento llamaba la atención como vegetariano, cristiano, abstemio y casi ermitaño, ahora presuma de juergas locas. Pero bueno, son etapas vitales, supongo (entrevistándole, por cierto, me dijo que ya no es copropietario de <a href="https://www.teany.com/" title="https://www.teany.com/" id="link_0">Teany</a>, el restaurante vegetariano que tenía en Nueva York con su novia, pues ya no están juntos. Mi suposición de cotilla-portera: tras quedarse sin pareja, Moby se ha lanzado a salir por la noche como una bestia parda. Fiesta y soltería-recién-reestrenada suelen ir juntos). En Last Night hay poco del Moby más comercial, del de anuncios de coche, y mucho de himnos techno-house que recuerdan a una rave de finales de los 80. Creo que es el primer disco de Moby desde "<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LfaQQ7LhHdw" title="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LfaQQ7LhHdw" id="link_1">Play</a>" (1999) que disfruto. Mención especial merecen las voces femeninas y los rapeos old-school, sobre todo en la espléndida "<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saU2mBZshno" title="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saU2mBZshno" id="link_0">I Love to Move in Here</a>", en la que participa Grandmaster Caz, uno de los raperos primitivos del Bronx en los 70 y de quien se dice que "robaron" Sugarhill Gang versos para su "<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=diiL9bqvalo" title="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=diiL9bqvalo" id="link_0">Rapper's Delight</a>" (o El gozo del rollista en la maravillosa traducción española. Molaría un montón poder decir "soy rollista", en lugar de "soy rapero"). Creo que Moby cae en general un poco mal, porque es un poco listillo, pero a mí me parece un tipo singular e inteligente. Por eso me gusta su <a href="http://www.moby.com/journal" title="http://www.moby.com/journal" id="link_3">blog</a> , o iniciativas como <a href="http://www.mobygratis.com/film-music.html" title="http://www.mobygratis.com/film-music.html" id="link_4">mobygratis</a> (en la que cede música por la cara a cineastas que empiezan) o que en su facebook haya colgado <a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/Moby/6028461107" title="http://www.facebook.com/pages/Moby/6028461107" id="link_0">cuatro remezclas</a> de su single Alice o su grupo de rock, <a href="http://www.myspace.com/thelittledeathNYC" title="http://www.myspace.com/thelittledeathNYC" id="link_5">The Little Death</a>. <a href="http://rcrdlbl.com/artists/Moby/music" title="http://rcrdlbl.com/artists/Moby/music" id="link_0">Aquí</a> se puede bajar una mezcla de nueve minutos de Last Night, para hacerse una idea de lo que es el disco. 10923 Anoche tocaron en el <a href="http://www.costelloclub.com/" title="http://www.costelloclub.com/" id="link_1">Costello</a>, Madrid, The Last Shadow Puppets, el proyecto de Alex Turner, cantante de los Arctic Monkeys, y Miles Kane, de los Rascals. Era un concierto "secreto", es decir, que no había entradas ni invitaciones, simplemente se avisó a unas pocas personas y se dejó que se corriera la voz (NdR: Gracias al amigo Josu por hacer las fotos: no son muy buenas, pero las mías eran peores). <img src="http://lacomunidad.elpais.com/blogfiles/dario-manrique/118934_P3280100.JPG" id="img_1" class="imgcen"> El concierto fue un breve acústico -siete canciones, poco más de 20 minutos- un formato que despista, pues se supone que el disco es pop muy orquestado, al estilo <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBMJ79ly3B4" title="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBMJ79ly3B4" id="link_0">Scott Walker</a>. Aun así, sirvió para comprobar que las canciones del debut de The Last Shadow Puppets, que sale el 21 de abril, son bastante chulas, y que la voz de los dos empasta muy bien. Temas como My Mistakes were Made For You, The Meeting Place o The Chamber -que me recordó a la estupenda canción de los Monkeys "<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWHkR4O8cyc" title="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWHkR4O8cyc" id="link_2">505</a>"- prometen. <img src="http://lacomunidad.elpais.com/blogfiles/dario-manrique/P3280090.JPG" id="img_2" class="imgizqda"> Dijeron que era sólo la tercera vez que tocaban The Last Shadow Puppets en directo. Éste es el primer proyecto fuera de Arctic Monkeys de Turner, un tipo que si no se tuerce va camino de hacer historia. Hay que recordar que sólo tiene 22 añitos, tres álbumes bajo el brazo, y en mi opinión es uno de los <a href="http://www.lyricsmania.com/lyrics/arctic_monkeys_lyrics_4351/whatever_people_say_i_am_thats_what_im_not_lyrics_17367/the_view_from_the_afternoon_lyrics_200897.html" title="http://www.lyricsmania.com/lyrics/arctic_monkeys_lyrics_4351/whatever_people_say_i_am_thats_what_im_not_lyrics_17367/the_view_from_the_afternoon_lyrics_200897.html" id="link_3">mejores letristas</a> que hay ahora mismo. Musicalmente se podrá pensar que no ha inventado nada, pero sus letras son magistrales, más a una edad en la que muchos de los compositores se dedican a repetir clichés. Será el Damon Albarn del siglo XXI. ¡Qué leches, mejor el nuevo Ray Davies! (Jejeje, vamos con una comparación exagerada de las que nos gustan tanto a los periodistas musciales). Tiene mucho ojo, una capacidad de observación de sus congéneres, de las relaciones y de lo que le rodea muy fina, al estilo del líder de los Kinks. 10923 Vi ayer Shine a Light, la película de Martin Scorsese sobre los <a href="http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=9550068" title="http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=9550068" id="link_2">Rolling Stones</a>, y aún no entiendo porqué en algunos sitios se la ha calificado como "documental". No tiene nada de documental, si con esa palabra hablamos de <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxkFnLzpoHo&feature=related" title="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxkFnLzpoHo&feature=related" id="link_1">No Direction Home</a>, lo que el propio Scorsese hizo con Dylan hace unos años. <img src="http://lacomunidad.elpais.com/blogfiles/dario-manrique/110982_shinealoght.jpg" id="img_1" class="imgcen"> Shine a Light es, básicamente, un concierto con algunas declaraciones de archivo intercaladas. Lo curioso, como comentaba una amiga a la salida del cine, es que el 80% de esas declaraciones hacen referencia a la edad, al tiempo que los Stones aguantarán tocando, etc. Cuando los medios hablan de la edad de Jagger y compañía se les reprocha cierto "edadismo", es decir, la creencia de que una persona de 60 años no está para hacer rock, que es algo sólo para jóvenes. Está bien que los Rolling Stones agarren por los cuernos el asunto de su avanzada edad y le den la vuelta, usándolo a su favor, pero que eso sea el tema central de la película me parece un poco exagerado... Scorsese se permite aparecer al principio, en la preparación de la actuación, en unas escenas que supuestamente intentan transmitir tensión -e incluso ciertos desacuerdos entre el director y Jagger- pero que parecen bastante amañadas. Pese a que el concierto está rodado a las mil maravillas, creo que no hay nada en Shine a Light que no hiciera hace 30 años en <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxGcAm0EkTU" title="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxGcAm0EkTU" id="link_3">The Last Waltz</a> , con The Band. La huella del director neoyorquino no está muy presente, salvo en detallitos como la última escena, en la que acompaña al grupo fuera del teatro, que es 100% Scorsese, un autohomenaje al glorioso plano-secuencia de Uno de los nuestros en la que Ray Liotta y Lorraine Bracco entran en un club por la puerta trasera al ritmo de Then He Kissed Me, <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgcSlZFGE1A" title="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgcSlZFGE1A" id="link_4">ésta</a>. Musicalmente, Shine a Light es reveladora de la calidad del directo de los Rolling Stones 2008: además de poder escuchar canciones que no tocan a menudo, como As Tears Go By o la country Faraway Eyes, el excelente sonido de la película y la tranquilidad de estar en el cine permiten pillar nuevos matices en sus interpretaciones de clásicos como Jumpin' Jack Flash o Brown Sugar, que en un estadio se pierden (se nota sobre todo en los juegos de guitarra de Ron Wood y Keith Richards, cómo se complementan, se retan, etc). Merece la pena ver Shine a Light, aunque no se debe esperar ni más ni menos que lo que es: un concierto excelentemente rodado de un grupo que sabe aprovechar las toneladas de bagaje que tiene a sus espaldas. 10923 No lo sabía cuando <a href="../dario-manrique/2008/3/6/-pagarias-200-un-disco-nine-inch-nails-" title="http://lacomunidad.elpais.com/dario-manrique/2008/3/6/-pagarias-200-un-disco-nine-inch-nails-" id="link_1">ayer</a> escribí sobre Nine Inch Nails, pero me enteré gracias a <a href="http://www.efeeme.com/" title="http://www.efeeme.com/" id="link_0">Efe Eme</a> : Iván Ferreiro, que edita su disco Mentiroso mentiroso el 25 de marzo, va a colgarlo para que se pueda bajar gratuitamente en su <a href="http://www.ivanferreiro.es/" title="http://www.ivanferreiro.es/" id="link_1">web</a> hoy y mañana sábado. Sólo estos dos días. <img src="http://lacomunidad.elpais.com/blogfiles/dario-manrique/ferreiro.bmp" id="img_0" class="imgizqda"> Ya decía ayer que cada más músicos están regalando su música y en breve esta maniobra no tendrá ya gancho promocional. Pero por ahora sí... Ferreiro, al igual que Trent Reznor, también va a hacer una edición fisica especial de su disco (eso sí, a diferencia de NIN, el gallego aún no ha prescindido de su discográfica de siempre). Mentiroso mentiroso se venderá en formato cómic-disco, con cada una de las 16 canciones acompañadas de viñetas creadas por dibujantes indies como Pepo Pérez, Sandra Uve o Sergio Córdoba. Puede estar chulo. He escuchado muy poco del disco, pero tiene buena pinta. Parece que hay menos aparatitos electrónicos y más instrumentos "orgánicos" que en los anteriores de Ferreiro en solitario. Su música me ha gustado siempre desde aquel Fin de la primera parte de Piratas y, sobre todo, con la evolución que tomó al final el grupo para hacer algo un poco más arriesgado (en Relax, sobre todo). Aprovechad a bajar el disco hoy y mañana, que es legal...
