Los comienzos de Lanzarote se debieron a los asentamientos de los marineros que faenaban por la cercana costa de Africa, asi como de mercaderes que encontraron un cómodo y bello lugar para establecerse. Posteriormente, en los años 1730 y después en 1824 se produjeron nuevas erupciones que cambiaron la configuración física de la isla, y estructuraron el único y espectacular paisaje que hoy podemos contemplar, especialmente en el Parque Nacional Timanfaya, donde la temperatura es muy elevada a muy poca profundidad, a tal punto que hay zonas donde no es posible retener en la mano, un poco de picó
