The London stop is part of a global tour which has taken in leading photographic institutions in New York, Toronto, Mexico, Paris, Hong Kong, Berlin, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok. Running until 29 January 2010, the exhibition showcases photographs by the winners and finalists of the 2009 Sony World Photography Awards, spanning a variety of genres including fashion, architecture, advertising, sport and music, from across the world. Un viaje que me costó un desgarro emocional del que aún no me he recuperado. Estos tres últimos días han sido bastante intensos. El viernes, estreno de NINE, película con la que disfruté plenamente pero que me removió muchas de esas cosas que están por ahí dentro y que a veces no conseguimos ni ponerle nombre. La culpa puede que sea del subconsciente y de los hilos múltiples de los que tira una experiencia, provocando un enredo difícil de digerir. Pero de eso os hablo luego... Last weekend I was walking through the Seville´s bowels. A trip that costed to me an emotional tear that I haven´t already recovered. These last three days have been quite intense. On Friday, Nine premiere film, that I enjoyed it fully but removed many of those things that are somewhere inside and we don´t get give a proper name. The fault may be the subconscious and multiple threads of shooting experience, causing a mess difficult to digest. But I'll speak to you about this fact later ... <a title="ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting" href="http://img638.imageshack.us/i/dscf1944.jpg/" target="_blank"><img src="http://img638.imageshack.us/img638/9586/dscf1944.jpg" border="0"></a> Quiero que todo el protagonismo de este post se lo lleve el Castillo de San Jorge ubicado en la barriga del barrio de Triana. Sus orígenes datan de la época romana aunque no fue hasta la etapa musulmana que se incrementó la población en torno a esa zona, lo que propició su construcción en el s. X. I want all the prominence of this post goes to the St George´s Castle sitted in the belly of the Triana district. Its origins date back to Roman times but it wasn´t until the Muslin stage that population increased around the area, which led to its construction in the X century. <a title="ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting" href="http://img11.imageshack.us/i/detalleo.jpg/" target="_blank"><img src="http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/7155/detalleo.jpg" border="0"></a> Antiguo arrabal y guarda de la ciudad de Sevilla por su estátégica posición en la otra orilla del río Guadalquivir, se convirtió en la puerta de entrada a las fértiles tierras sembradas de cereales, vides y olivos que formaban parte del Aljarafe -que significa "proveedor de agua" en árabe-. Además, era la primera parte de un camino que conducía hacia Huelva y la sede del puerto comercial -última defensa de la ciudad antes de alcanzar sus murallas-. Old Seville´s guard and suburb it become -due to its strategical position on the opposite bank of the Guadalquivir River -the gateway to the fertile land planted with cereals, vines and olive trees that were part of the Aljarafe-meaning "water provider" in Arabic. It was also the first part of a road leading towards Huelva and the seat of commercial port -last defense of the city before reaching its walls-. <a title="ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting" href="http://img682.imageshack.us/i/puertareal.jpg/" target="_blank"><img src="http://img682.imageshack.us/img682/2995/puertareal.jpg" border="0"></a> Por cierto, ¿os he dicho alguna vez que yo soy de la Puerta Real -llamada también de Goles- que os señalo en el detalle del grabado de 1585 de Ambrosio Brambilla? Otro post os contaré la historia de las Murallas y las Puertas de Sevilla. Esto es lo que queda actualmente de esa Puerta. <a title="ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting" href="http://img715.imageshack.us/i/puentebarcassevilla1851.jpg/" target="_blank"><img src="http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/3197/puentebarcassevilla1851.jpg" border="0"></a> Para llegar desde Sevilla hasta la otra orilla se construyó el Puente de Barcas en 1171, cuando la ciudad estaba al mando del califa Abu Yacub Yusuf, lo que supuso un importante incentivo al crecimiento urbano del entonces arrabal, al conectarlo con Sevilla y con la actividad portuaria. El lugar estaba entonces delimitado por una rambla que corría, por lo que hoy es la calle Pagés del Corro. To get from Seville to the other side, it was built the Boats Bridge in 1171, when the city was under the command of Caliph Abu Yacoub Yusuf, which was an important incentive to the growth of urban slums then, when connected with Seville and activity port. XV), durante el reinado de los Reyes Católicos, el Castillo pasó a ser sede del Tribunal de la Inquisición durante tres siglos -que se dice pronto-. <a title="ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting" href="http://img145.imageshack.us/i/dscf1960ht.jpg/" target="_blank"><img src="http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/7328/dscf1960ht.jpg" border="0"></a> After the Castilian conquest-with attack included to the castle and the bridge by the army of St. Ferdinand III, who incidentally is the saint patron of Seville, the Order of St. George was installed in the castle where they built the first parish of Triana. Later (XV century), during the reign of Ferdinand and Isabella, "The Catholics" the Castle became the seat of the Tribunal of the Inquisition during three centuries, it is said soon... - <a title="ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting" href="http://img145.imageshack.us/i/dscf1953w.jpg/" target="_blank"><img src="http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/9396/dscf1953w.jpg" border="0"></a> Entrar allí es realmente asfixiante -y puede que el que yo sea de Sevilla me hiciera estar más sensibilizada a toda la injusticia que la ciudad vertió sobre los "diferentes" en aquel lugar-. Qué experiencia pisar ese suelo preñado de piedras, conservadas tal y como eran desde el principio, al igual que los restos de paredes, azulejos, arcos.. donde irrumpieron los gritos de los torturados. No es dificil intuir el sufrimiento de quienes fueron allí encarcelados, ultrajados, asesinados por el juicio de valor y el abuso de poder de quienes se creían en posesión de una única verdad que no merecía réplica alguna. En nombre de la religión, de la buena moral y costumbres. Allí permanecen los restos de unas vidas que fueron cotidianas durante generaciones: la casa del portero, las cuadras, las casas del nuncio y el notario, la cocina, la bodega, la casa del primer inquisidor o la de los familiares de los inquisidores. <a title="ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting" href="http://img62.imageshack.us/i/dscf1963f.jpg/" target="_blank"><img src="http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/6678/dscf1963f.jpg" border="0"></a> Step inside is really suffocating and -perhaps because I´m from Seville it made me be more sensitized to the injustice that the city poured on the "different" in that place. Such an experience stepping stones that land preserved as they were from the beginning, like the remains of walls, tiles, arches .. which broke the screams of the tortured. It´s not difficult to sense the suffering of those who were there imprisoned, persecuted, killed by the value judgments and abuse of power by those who believed in possession of the one and only truth which didn´t deserve a reply. In the name of religion, good morals and customs. Muchos huyeron de sus hogares, familias, cultura, para salvar sus vidas y probablemente nunca lograron volver antes de morir por miedo a la hoguera. Me duele el alma cuando pienso en ello pero no quiero eludir ese sentimiento porque hoy día en otros lugares del Planeta se siguen vivenciando esas historias de injustas muertes por causas egoistas en pos del poder de unos pocos desalmados. Ya os lo advertía al principio de este post. Llevo todo el fin de semana despellejándome por dentro. Cuando salimos del Castillo nos fuimos al mercado que está construido arriba. Desde allí me asomé, en sentido inverso a como lo hice desde abajo. Ahí está la historia, a la vista, para que todo el mundo se asome aunque no entre y no olvide nunca lo que allí está enterrado. When we left the castle we went to the market that it´s built up. From there I looked in the opposite direction to how I did it from below. History is there, the view for everyone to lean out and never forget what it´s buried there. XV y XVI. La tenía en casa y no podía dejar de verla de nuevo. Tchaikovsky forma parte de su Banda Sonora -mi clásico favorito y al que llevo escuchando todo el finde-. Guido, su protagonista, es un hombre atormentado que navega por su pasado e inventa historias mientras escapa de un presente atormentado. La agonía del creador es una bajada a los infiernos necesaria donde reencontrarse con sus más temidos demonios para poder emerger con la sensatez necesaria que le permitan vivir su vida y crear su obra. <a title="ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting" href="http://img402.imageshack.us/i/dscf1962.jpg/" target="_blank"><img src="http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/9573/dscf1962.jpg" border="0"></a> Os recomiendo ambas movies y la visita al <a href="http://www.sevilla.org/turismo/paginas_es/patrimoniomonumentalficha.asp?idpatrimonio=294">Castillo de San Jorge</a> Nine on Friday, and 8 ½ from Fellini on Saturday. I had it at home and I saw it again. Tchaikovsky is part of the soundtrack -my favorite classic and I've been listening him all weekend. Guido, the protagonist, is a man tormented by his past who invent stories as an escape to his torments. Pasear por sus calles y purificarse con los olores que desprenden las especias: canela, cardamomo, cilantro... comprarse unos hongos y hacerse un delicioso revuelto tras las tapitas (divinas espinacas con garbanzos y sangre encebollada, por ejemplo) y el vino/cerveza de rigor en el bar del mercado... Luego llegaron los fenicios, los visigodos y los árabes en el 711, que decidieron quedarse hasta la conquista de Alfonso X en el siglo XIII. <a title="ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting" href="http://img532.imageshack.us/i/dscf1760.jpg/" target="_blank"><img src="http://img532.imageshack.us/img532/9448/dscf1760.jpg" border="0"></a> Ya en los siglos XIV y XV su puerto pesquero fue la mayor fuente económica de la zona. Pero no solo de historia vive el hombre. Este pueblo costero es un lugar ideal para deleitarse de los ricos manjares terrenales. Por ejemplo, el bar "er beti" tiene como especialidad la carne "mechá".
