En diciembre de 2007, fracasó con el referéndum de reforma constitucional, con el cual pretendía convertir a Venezuela en un estado socialista. Sin embargo, un presidente con un pensamiento absolutista y autoritario, con todo el poder político, con pleno control sobre el poder judicial, el legislativo, el electoral, el poder contralor y sobre todo con el más grande poder económico que presidente alguno haya tenido en América al sur de los Estados Unidos y, además, con deseos de gobernar perennemente, no está dispuesto a desprenderse del poder así no más, por la vía electoral. En estas últimas semanas, Chávez que se jacta públicamente que es “bueno en la contraofensiva”, ejecutó una voltereta que dio inicio a su nueva ofensiva: Declaró que las FARC debían dejar las armas y entregar a los rehenes sin condiciones. Más tarde, estableció los parámetros para hacer las paces –por ahora- con Uribe. Se fue de gira internacional donde aprovechó para comprar más armamento en Rusia y pasó por Mallorca donde el rey de España disfrutaba sus vacaciones para procurar recuperar su maltrecha imagen internacional, encuentro por cierto muy importante para posteriormente nacionalizar el Banco de Venezuela del grupo Santander. Mientras tanto, inhabilitó políticamente a dirigent<A href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_zV1zSwbq-3I/SJtbvtOgnPI/AAAAAAAAA00/YypCUUZIDL0/s1600-h/hugo_chavez.jpg"><IMG id=BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5231876267273395442 style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_zV1zSwbq-3I/SJtbvtOgnPI/AAAAAAAAA00/YypCUUZIDL0/s200/hugo_chavez.jpg" border=0></A>es claves de la oposición con gran arraigo popular y electoral en Venezuela, crea la milicia armada bolivariana, se autonombra comandante en jefe (general de 4 estrellas) y decreta 26 leyes inconstitucionales para hacer, por esta vía, una reforma hacia el “socialismo del siglo XXI” o neoautoritarismo. Misma reforma que hace menos de un año fue rechazada mediante el sufragio en referéndum por la mayoría del pueblo venezolano. Después sobrevendrá el reagrupamiento de fuerzas y comenzará la verdadera batalla entre los que quieren reimplantar el socialismo en el siglo XXI y quienes proyectan un sistema de libertades basado en el ejercicio pleno de los derechos humanos.
