La canadiense, que acaba de firmar una de las grandes joyas del año, comenzó muy joven, con doce años, cantando en la apertura de los Juegos de Invierno de Calgary. Hija de artistas, siempre quiso escribir, pero los derroteros de la vida la llevaron de escenario en escenario. Formó parte de varios grupos de calado vario, el más destacable Broken Social Scene. El grupo se formó cuando sus miembros se conocieron en el Infest Festival de 1993, cuando el grupo de Leslie teloneó a Ramones. Su debut en solitario fue en 1999 con “Monarch”, siguió tocando con otros grupos hasta que en 2004 volvió a la soledad para presentar “Let it die”, su primer disco de impacto, en 2006 firmó “Open season” y en 2007, “The reminder”, su último álbum hasta la fecha. Leslie se había consagrado en soledad. “The reminder” es un disco bien trabajado y con coherencia, de esos trabajos que se pueden escuchar del tirón y sin dudas. Con canciones de carga emocional y otras de un lirismo contundente. Con versiones como el “Sealion” de la gran Nina Simone. Se trata de ese torbellino llamado "Lilac Wine" que aparecía en su (único) álbum Grace de 1994 y que alcanzaba su máximo apogeo en directo. Es un clásico tema in crescendo en el que Buckley ponía el alma en cada interpretación. </big></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 15px;"> </span></div><div><big>Pues resulta que el original es un creación del año 1950 compuesta por James Shelton e interpretada por Eartha Kitt (1953), Judy Henske (1963), Nina Simone (1966) o Elkie Brooks (1978) desde entonces. </big></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 15px;"> </span></div><div><big>Buckley haría su versión basándose en la de <a href="http://www.NinaSimone.com" title="http://www.NinaSimone.com" id="link_1">Nina Simone</a>, que consideraba era la única e inigualable, la versión definitiva. Nina haría durante su carrera numerosas versiones de temas de otros genios o de temas desconocidos que se harían populares para el público en voz suya. Por su parte, Jeff sería (tristemente) recordado para el gran público por su (enorme) versión del Hallelujah del imprescindible <a href="http://www.LeonardCohen.com" title="http://www.LeonardCohen.com" id="link_0">Leonard Cohen</a>.
